When college kids start to look for student loan information, parents need to make sure their children understand all the responsibilities of federal student loans. At such a young age, when kids are sifting through all the student loan information, they usually just focus on all the money they will be getting at the moment and do not really think about their future responsibilities. There are a lot of students applying for federal student loans that see the money they get as free money. In fact, some of them believe that nothing will happen to them if they do not pay that money back when the time comes; jut because they read in the student loan information pamphlets that student loans fall under different laws than “normal” loans. Parents need to sit down and peruse all student loan information with them clearly explaining the repercussions of all students’ loans they get. Students need to be aware of how getting student loans affect their credit and how getting an amount of loans that they foresee not able to pay in the future will adversely affect their options for the future. No student loan information will tell you that student loans are akin to getting a loan to start a business and if you don’t pay it back, you will lose your business. Please be very judicious when getting federal student loans
