Consolidate Student Loans to Reduce the Monthly Repayment |

My step daughter is a single mother of three children. Because she doesn’t have much money despite the fact that she works, she still lives at home in the upstairs portion of our house. My husband and I have spoken to my step daughter about going to college to further her education. As a former teacher, I’m passionate about education. I have told my step daughter on more than one occasion that the only way she can achieve financial autonomy is to further herself. She worries about being able to afford to go to college. I’ve advised her to work part time while she studies and apply for a Federal Student Loan. I’ve also told her to look for student loan information online, but thus far my advice seems to have fallen on deaf ears. She claims she is worried about paying back her student loan later on. I told her that you can consolidate student loans. If you consolidate student loans you can pay a smaller monthly repayment over a longer period of time. Despite my advice, my step daughter has yet to enroll on a college course. I hope she changes her mind at some point in the future.
